Greenville's new fire chief has a familiar name | News
GREENVILLE, AL (WSFA) - Residents of Greenville have a new fire chief with an old, familiar name.
Michael Phillips has retired after serving as the city's fire chief for more than forty years. The Greenville city council has appointed his son Chad to the top position in the fire department.
Chad Phillips has 22 years of experience and on Monday he received his new badge from his father.
"Of course it's a bittersweet moment for me with him retiring. I hate to see my father retire," Phillps says. "But at the same time, taking on so many new responsibilities, I'm just so ready to get out there and get 'em going."
Michael Phillips is looking forward to his retirement. "I also pastor a church, so I'm looking forward to being able to spend more time doing that and I've got some grand kids I need to visit and see and a lot of honey dos to do at home so we're looking forward to it."
The fire chief supervises 21 full-time firefighters and nine volunteers at two stations in Greenville.
